Street Art and Statues Project
Without a doubt Chippenham town centre can be described as beige, however this is not a bad thing as every artist knows that a blank canvas will always facilitate the most beautiful creations!
Throughout the town there has always been a great arts movement, but today we see a huge movement for change, and now is the time to bring that to the front and celebrate both the history and future in the present through a variety of artistic instillations such as street art, statues, and living walls - the scope is only limited by the imagination.
For some time now there has been work on a project to celebrate the role that Chippenham had in the rehabilitation of World War One casualties by installation of a 'bench statue' which sits well with the movements to mark both Maud Heaths history and the Brunel arches by the Artisan Quarter which is at an early stage in development.
Alongside this there is also a push for street art to give character to our town centre streets by a newly formed group who are looking at appropriate sites and beginning the process of sorting out the probable's and possible to sit with the aspirational.
This is a movement that is predicated on the reality that art is not an option to the regeneration of Chippenham town centre - it is as important as the streets that we walk in.
